HOW ARE some of our celebrities taking their role of a lifetime, as a father or a dad or tatay to their kids?

ONE celebrity Dad I truly admire is former matinee idol of the 80s, an award-winning actor, singer and businessman, Rey ‘PJ’ Abellana.

Now happily married to his wife of 22 years, Sheena, Rey is father to their Reysheel and JR. And he is also Dad to Erika and Carla and another one from a previous marriage.

His daughter Reysheel has turned 18 last April. At the onset of the CoVid-19 virus pandemic. But the plans of her coming out to society has been marred.

“Syempre, hindi lang namin tinatambayan ng wife ko, ‘yung frustrations namin dahil hindi natuloy ang celebration ng aming dalaga ng kanyang debut. So, everyone is praying na after ma-postpone ito, at ngayon na medyo umaayos na ang lahat, mangyari pa rin ito in July. Of course, minsan lang dadaanan ng isang dalaga ang kanyang debut.

“For my daughter Carla, isa rin ‘yun sa worry nila of my future son-in-law Tom (Rodriguez). Kaya, the wedding plans were moved na rin to October.

“As a parent, I am proud of my kids. Especially when they do good in school. Both Sheena and I believe na ang magandang edukasyon ang maiiwan namin sa kanila. Being a parent is not perfect. There are challenges. Sacrifices. At the end of the day, your pat on the back is when people praise them for their being good persons. Na napalaki namin ng tama.”

Reysheel dreams of pursuing her passion in the arts. As the debutante dabbles in painting and the art of animation. While the junior dreams of becoming an actor just like Dad in the future.

Daddy Rey is proud of his most-prized treasures.

ANOTHER DAD we are also proud of, is a very good friend from way back as well. The singer, Chad Borja.

He who does not deny that apart from his two girls now, he has sired four more kids with different mothers.

“Okay lang ‘yun. Alam naman nila. I don’t see them but I talk to them always. Nandito lang sila.”

Chad has opted to stay in Davao with his wife Emy and their two daughters, Aby and Rafaela. Aby is 20, Rafaela is turning 18 this August.

What’s the best part of being a Dad?

“The best part being a dad is to see your children growing up and see them progress in their dreams and goals in life.

“Aby is doing well in her studies at MINT (Meridien International). She’s taking up Music Business Management. This is really where her heart is… Pa-sing-sing, composing, but totally different compared to our time. Ngayon sila na nagma-market ng sarili nila and they know what they want.

“Mafy is continuing her training in golf and soon, will join competitions abroad.

“I was the one who introduced & influenced them kasi golfer ako and of course singer. Pero gusto ko mag excel sila. That’s why i started teaching them while they were still infants. Sa pagkanta. Then, golf.”

Being a hands-on Dad to his “dalagas” Chad joins them in his online gigs.

“I just guide them. They do their bits. And when I have projects, kasama ko sila. After doing the “Sing Out By the South” last year, to help our musicians from the South, we are planning to hold another one. Kasi, marami pa rin tayong mga kasamahang musikero na nangangailangan pa rin ng tulong. So, ‘yan uli ang aayusin namin. Baka through KUMU or other platforms pa or gaya nung sa SOBTS.”

This Dad really rocks!

WHENEVER HE HAS the time, Congressman Alfred Vargas studies scripts that are worth to be made into films.

“Ang sitwasyon lang naman natin ngayon ang medyo nagpatigil at nagpabago sa lahat. Kaya, ang focus ko, together with my brother, Councilor PM Vargas is still with our constituents in our district. At the same time, gumagawa at pinag-aaralan ang mga batas na naipapasa na siya naman nating pinaiiral.”

The non-negotiable agenda on the desk of the hard-working public servant is the time he gets to spend with his three kids.

“My Mondays are reserved na para sa ating mga constituents at sa lahat naman ng aking nakakausap via zoom kung saan naihahain nila their concerns, mga tanong na ang hanap ay kasagutan din sa kanilang mga pangangailangan. Things that need be addressed para ma-solusyunan.

“Ang hindi lang mawawala to start my day is my coffee. And the time I spend with the kids bago ko harapin ang katungkulan at obligasyon ko para sa balana.

“Sa natutunan ko sa time management, in my work, in my personal life, hindi naman nawala ang paglalaan ko ng panahon para sa kanila at kay misis (Yasmine). So, we make it a point na we spend time with the vacations we take here and abroad. But with the pandemic now, our home is where these things are made possible. Basta there should be time to spend quality time with our kids.

That’s where I get to see rin kasi ang mga development sa kanila. Who dabbles in Art, in cooking, and other things. Start ’em young, sabi nga and guide them lang to whatever desires and wishes they have in their hearts.”

THE work-at-home Tatay now has more time to spend with the kiddos.

DEFINITELY, actor, politician slash car racer Jomari Yllana was very happy when his eldest kid, Andre graduated from school.

“Pangarap naman ng bawat magulang na makapag-aral ang kanilang mga anak. Magabayan at masuportahan. Aminado tayo, sa maraming bagay may mga hindi tayo napunan. Ang ipinagpapasalamat ko at syempre ibibigay ko ang kredito ay sa kanyang ina dahil natutukan at nagabayan niya si Andre to get to where he is now.

“Sa mga pagkakataong nakakausap at nakakasama at nakikita ko si Andre, he’s been sharing with me and telling me rin naman kahit in passing his passions. Nasa paga-artista rin. At nasa pagka-karera. Kaya ako, as a father na gusto masuportahan his dream of one day making it sa car racing, dream at pinagpupursigihan ko rin naman na makapagpatayo ng school for racers kung saan sila mate-train where in the future, si Andre rin naman ang maga-asikaso kung gusto pa rin niya.”

These days, Jom and his partner Abby (Viduya) frequently visits their ancestral home in Bicol, with brother Anjo.

He and his brothers are like Dads to each other, supporting one another at all cost.

Jomari shared the news when Anjo attended to casualties of a motorcycle versus truck (vehicular) accident in Sipocot, Camsur.

As Anjo commented on his socmed account, “Please lang sa mga nagmo-motor hindi po parte ng motor ang katawan niyo. Lagi kayo magi-ingat po. Salamat po Gov. Migz Villafuerte for the super fast response, Sir. Hope they will be fine🙏❤️”

Jomari has two other kids with an ex-girlfriend.

“They are taken care of,” was his brief retort.

THIS DADA only wishes the best for his sons!
