HOW DO YOU MEASURE ONE’S GOODNESS?

THE “P” TALKS!

BY: Pilar Mateo

SINGER and actor Raymond Lauchengco found a nice way to share his other talent in the time of CoVid-19.

And has he found the goodness in the hearts of people.

He shares his thought about it:

“How do you measure a year?

“My IKIGAI exhibit, which was born from my need to find comfort and meaning in these troubled times, and nurtured by your support and encouragement, comes to a close.

“I still can’t believe everything that has happened these last three months since the pandemic turned our worlds upside down.

“I still can’t believe I made each of the fourteen pieces with my own hands, a few traditional tools and scavenged materials.

“Or that I had an exhibit where people from as far as Toronto, Houston, and around the Philippines bought the pieces which allowed me to raise funds for my friends and colleagues in production work.

“It is not a secret that there are no shows for me to sing in or direct these days. And like countless others, my income has taken a big hit.

“In normal times, that would cause me great anxiety. But in the new normal, I find myself surprisingly happy.

“My family and loved ones are well. My wife and I get to be with our kids all day, and we are learning to live with less which makes us appreciate what we have all the more.

“Before the pandemic hit, I had my fair share of bookings to sing, and events to direct. The money was good but it would go out as quickly as it came in.

“There may less coming in these days, but how is it possible that it is going a much longer way? The bills are getting paid, there is nothing that we need, and for the first time in a long time, Mia and I are in a position to help others in our own small way.

“Mia started it all when she decided to earmark the ‘first fruit’ of all her online soap-making classes to support displaced tricycle drivers in our community. After seeing the example she set, I was inspired to follow suit and through the generosity of many people, we were able to raise more than P 70,000, to help those in the event industry who need it the most.

“Again, how is this possible?

“My mind cannot explain it so my heart turns to the miracle of the five loaves and two fish that Jesus used to feed a multitude of five thousand people. I choose to believe that it is happening again.

“Ikigai comes to a close for now because Mia and I have decided to keep the last two pieces ‘Edison’ and ‘Rustic Evenings’.

“Both of them are able to give light when it is dark.

“And both of them will serve as a beautiful reminder to us of how God’s faithfulness and light, have never shone brighter.

“Thank you all. From the bottom of my heart.”

ON TO THE NEXT project?
