THE “P” TALK!
BY: Pilar Mateo
THE idea of re-producing a classic Lino Brocka tale has been playing in actor/producer/businessman/philanthropist/ and more Joed Serrano’s mind.
Admittedly, he was “enamored” first at what he saw in the 1988 poster of the National Artist’s opus that catapulted the careers of likes of Allan Paule and newly discovered that time William Lorenzo into showbiz kingdom. They were the “Macho Dancers”!
But I got busy muna with other things na hands-on din ako. I was into producing local and foreign acts. Vice Ganda. Alden Richards. Araneta Coliseum. Wala maniwala na mapupuno. I did it!”
The reason why, for this project which will be helmed by Direk Joel Lamangan who was in the Brocka movie, Joed is again pushing his luck with the guy they chose to portray the lead part. Sean de Guzman.
“We would like to think na the opportunity is really meant for him. Meron na kami napili talaga. But when Sean came to the next audition for the supporting parts, sabi nga ni Direk Joel, na tama ang sinabi ni Dennis (Evangelista), our line producer, na nandun ‘yung ignorance sa dating niya.
Kaya when we saw him, kami ang pinag-desisyon ni Direk if he’s the one.
“With regards sa una naming napili na si Mico Pasamonte, he will still be part of the movie with an important role to play din. Trabaho. So, we have to take things professionally.”
It was Special People Productions of Boy de Guia (where this writer was a part of) which produced the Ricky Lee script. This time, with the blessings of the master scriptwriter, Henry Quitain got the blessings to continue the life and times of the offspring of the macho dancer in his heydays.
The story will be in the present time.
The people responsible for Sean’s lauching movie apart from Joed, the producer of Godfather Productions are Direk Joel, business consultant Grace Ibuna and supervising producer and publicist Jobert Sucaldito.
Most of the cast in the original story will continue to essay their roles here like Alan as the father of Lito (Sean), and Jaclyn Jose.
When Sean was presented to the media via a social distancing physical presscon, he danced his way into the room and showed everyone the grooves and moves of a star macho dancer.
Another surprise landes on Sean’s lap as witnessed by his manager Len Carillo when Joed presented him a contract and a check to be the new face amd endorser of RDL’s Blackwater.
There is no stopping as to the rise of the “son”. Ang “Anak ng Macho Dancer”!
