FROM THE DESK of FDCP Chair Liza diño Seguerra:

AUGUST 17, 2020 —After six months of laborious hearings led by the House of Representatives Committee on Labor, the Act creating occupational and safety standards and welfare for the film, television, and radio entertainment industry, otherwise known as the EDDIE GARCIA BILL, has finally been approved in the subcommittee level.

“Mahaba-haba pa ang lalakbayin nito. May Mother committee pa, plenary, and then the SENATE. But this is already a significant stride towards final approval.

“On behalf of the Film Development Council of the Philippines, we would like to thank our honorable legislators led by HOR Committee on Labor Chairman Cong. Enrico Pineda, Subcommittee Co-chairs, Cong. Raymond Mendoza and Cong. Toff de Venecia, and the authors Cong. Rufus Rodriguez and Cong. Ferdie Gaite for their steadfast commitment, patience, and hard work to finally provide the much-needed empowerment of our film workers in the film industry.

“Maraming salamat rin sa lahat ng resource persons na hindi bumitaw hangga’t hindi naaaprubahan ang mga provisions sa bill na ito.

“Representatives Mikee Romero, Vilma Santos, Ronnie Ong, Yul Servo, at sa iba pang authors na nagjumpstart para masimulan ang bill na ito, salamat sa malasakit sa mga manggagawa ng Pelikulang Pilipino.

“As we close the 100 years celebration of PH cinema, this is the greatest gift we can give to Philippine cinema especially for our passionate film workers who for the longest time have been needing institutionalized protection from the government.

“FDCP will be here. Patiently waiting. Consistently hoping. Until this is passed.

“This is your LEGACY.”

Salamat, Madam Chair! (30)
