HE knew what it felt like to be a struggling musician.

Long before we heard of Chad Borja’s rise to fame in the music industry, he had his share of struggles as a band member.

“Before ako nag solo, mga 7-8 yrs ako nag banda. Pag sa Family Birth Control ni Nonoy (Zuñiga) nasa Zee Band ‘ata ako. Based kami sa Cebu but most of the time nasa abroad kami.

Papa ko kasi namatay nung 12 yrs old ako.

“Nagba-barko lang ako from Cebu to Manila dati. Minsan overloaded pa so nakatayo lang walang mahigaan.”

Friends reminiscing about life was the talk I had with Chad. In this time of pandemic, he gets the chance to talk with his fellow musicians, mostly from the South.

And he talked about the project his State Of Mind Productions is doing this Sunday, June 21, 2020 at 8 p.m. which can be watched via Facebook.

“Sing Out by the South” will feature our artists mostly from Visayas and Mindanao. Hindi naman kami nagdi-discriminate with our other artists din. Naisip ko lang to have this fund raising concert para rin sa mga displaced musicians natin. Na karamihan, kung walang gigs or shows or concerts, walang kita. Ang drummers, pianist, mga tumutugtog for the main artists.

“Napag-usapan namin ‘yan ni Ms. Joey Albert nung mag-guest ako when she was featured sa Bayanihan show recently. Kaya we came up with this project. At natuwa naman kami, kasi ang dami’ng nag-volunteer to be part of it.”

According to Chad, some artists will perform live and some are pre-recorded.

Kaya we are calling on our Cebu and Davao based musicians to support us and be part of this. Dahil para sa kanila ito.”

Those who will be part of the show are Ms. Joey Albert, Ms. Pilita Corrales, Manilyn Reynes, Luke Mejares, Jun Polistico, Jay Durias, Thor Dulay, Bernie Uy, Duncan Ramos, Gab Alipe of Urban Dub, Nonoy Zuñiga, US based Jo Awayan, and Ms. Dulce. And more!

Chad is a true-blue Cebuano. But now, he and his family are based in Davao.

Enjoy their music. Donate. Support our musicians!
