“Social distancing is inevitable. Kaya most of the time, the chats and the interviews are done in ZOOM and other available platforms. In YouTube or whatever.
“But you know, if this is a job that feels second skin to you, hindi mo na iniisip na this is just a job. Especially when you love talking to people. Getting the latest news about them. How they are doing in the time of CoVid-19. Just sharing about what life is all about in this ki dof situation.”
There are celebrities from Hollywood. And personalities from home.
“It is such a breeze when you get to chat or listen to their music or whatever project they are involved with right now. Whether in Quarantine or Lockdown, you just feel that they just want to have someone to talk to and be with even for a short time.”
MJ is just so happy to share his life and times with his celebrity encounters.

DOES the name James Cooper ring a bell?
But of course!
He has literally touched and handled innumerable faces and hair of both local and international stars!
James shared something in his FB account which caught my attention.
“I WRITE LETTERS TO EVERYONE, EXCEPT TO MY FAMILY, FRIENDS & LOVERS, WHO, MOSTLY, I DEAL WITH PERSONALLY. THE VERY FIRST CELEBRITY I SENT WORD ON PAPER TO WAS LOLITA RODRIGUEZ, AFTER WATCHING HER FILM ‘BABAENG HUDAS’, IN GRADE SCHOOL.
“I ADDRESSED IT TO THE OLD SAMPAGUITA STUDIOS, & THERE WAS NO REPLY. WHEN I FINALLY MET THE GREAT ACTRESS IN SIMPLE PERSON, SHE SMILED & THANKED ME FOR GIVING HER TIME, EVEN IN MY CHILDHOOD, WE TALKED FOR HOURS, AFTER THAT, GLAD THANKS TO LINO BROCKA, FOR D’ ARRANGE.
“NEXT, I WROTE TO FERDINAND MARCOS, IN BLUE HIGH SCHOOL, AFTER I & MY GROUP SAW HIM & ROSEMARIE SONORA & THEIR DELEGATION, AT THE FORMER IMPERIAL HOTEL IN LEGAZPI CITY, ALBAY. AS USUAL, I GOT NO REPLY, AS THE BEATLES TWISTED & SOULED TO THE ODD DANCE OF THE SIXTIES. (SURPRISINGLY, I WAS SUMMONED TO THE DIRECTRESS/ PRINCIPAL’S OFFICE, MUCH LATER, FOR NO APPARENT REASON, EXCEPT THE BLANKET CENSURE: I SHOULD STOP WRITING LETTERS TO ANY PUBLIC FIGURES, ESPECIALLY TO SENSITIVE TOP POLITICIANS.)
“I WAS FOURTEEN AT THE TIME, ABOUT TO GRADUATE, & FIGHTING FOR TOP HONORS, SO I ABIDED, THOUGH RELUCTANTLY, SINCE I ALSO WROTE TO ROSEMARIE SONORA, AFTER THAT. AGAIN, THERE WAS NO ANSWER FROM HER; BUT I LOST SOMETHING, IN A SITUATION THAT SCARRED ME FOR LIFE, IT LIVED IN ME.
“TO CONTINUE: THE THING IS, MY WOULD-BE PUBLISHER ADVISED ME TO REFRAIN FROM SPILLING THE BEANS, SO TO SPEAK. SINCE MY BOOK IS FORTHCOMING, & SOME SCRIPT OUGHT TO BE IN THAT BOOK FIRST. OKAY, MADALI NAMAN AKONG KAUSAP, AT KUNG ANO ANG NARARAPAT, LET’S GO FOR IT.
“AT ANY RATE, I WROTE TO SUNDRY SOULS & THEIR SPIRIT RESPONDED IN “VIRUS” WAYS, MEANING UNPREDICTABLE & MULTIPLE, ONE BEGINS TO WONDER : WHAT IS IT ABOUT MY HAND OR MY WORD OR MY SITUATION THAT SPELLS ACTION IN CERTAIN SUNDOWNS?
“LOLITA RODRIGUEZ, F. MARCOS, ROSEMARIE SONORA, NICK JOAQUIN, MIKE DE LEON, AMALIA FUENTES, LINO BROCKA, FERNANDO POE, JR., CORY AQUINO, VILMA SANTOS, MANUEL MORATO, ROBINA GOKONGWEI, BRILLANTE MENDOZA, WILSON TIENG, BOY ABUNDA, COCO MARTIN, JACLYN JOSE, SHARON CUNETA & MERYL STREEP. Om…
“YES, THE MERYL STREEP! LONG STORY SHORT, I WAS PART OF AN INITIAL PLAN TO GET MERYL FOR A FILIPINO FILM, TO BE SHOT HERE & PARTLY IN THE U.S. WE HAD THE STORY LINE, WISHFUL NEGOTIATIONS AT THE READY, BUT FATE INTERVENED, & CANNES BROUGHT ISABELLE HUPPERT TO THE PHILIPPINES INSTEAD. RESULT: BRILLANTE’S ‘CAPTIVE’ (2011), A SORRY REWORK OF THE DOCU-FEATURE ‘JIHAD’, THAT FEATURED MARK GIL, AMONG OTHER FILIPINO TALENTS.
“IN BRIEF, MERYL DID NOT ANSWER MY LETTER PERSONALLY, BUT HER AGENT SENT A SIGNED PHOTO THAT ANDOY WAS ONLY TOO WILLING TO TAKE AWAY. THIS WAS DECADES EARLIER THAN THE FILM PLAN THAT WENT PFFFT, WRY POLITICS & ALL.
“SO MUCH FOR LETTERS & WRITING LETTERS TO CELEBRITIES, THERE’S ONE BIG SURPRISE!
“N.B. THE DIVINE MERYL IS SHOWN HERE W/ SUSAN AFRICA, AT THE BERLINALE FILMFEST IN GERMANY, FEBRUARY 2016, WHERE SHE (STREEP) CHAIRED THE JURY. LAV DIAZ’S ENTRY, ‘HELE SA HIWAGANG HAPIS’, WON SOME AWARD THE FILMMAKER REALLY DID WORK FOR.’HELE’ FEATURED PIOLO PASCUAL, JOHN LLOYD CRUZ, CHERIE GIL & SUSAN A., A DEAR FRIEND, WHOM I MET THROUGH HER MANAGER, ED INSTRELLA, THE BEST IN TOWN. KUNG MAY TUTOL, TRY OTHERS.
