BELL FILMS’ “KontrAdiksyon” is easily one of the biggest films of the year in terms of the powerhouse cast it boasts.
From Jake Cuenca to Kris Bernal, the massive supporting cast also include Katrina Halili, Ritz Azul, Paolo Paraiso, Arnold Reyes, Elizabeth Oropesa, Odette Khan, Levy Ignacio, Dulce to name some.
But critically, what’s so remarkable about the film is the absence of a clear protagonist and antagonist.
In this full-length feature, Palanca award-winning writer-director, Njel de Mesa seems to have woven a tale without a clear-cut hero or villain. Yet despite this novel idea of pitting all opposing views on the current drug war in a singular film, he hopes to captivate, enthrall, excite and even possibly, disturb the audience with a delicate premise which may arguably be already controversial.
The role of Jake as Alexis Borlaza is a staunch human rights activist who ends up becoming an undercover drug enforcement agent-but is actually a vigilante killer by night.
Set to open on June 26, 2019, the film seems to have piques the interestbof even the President- who, ironically is being plagued with criticisms and an impending investigation from the UNHRC (United Nations Human Rights Council).
Direk Njel is very impressed eith his actors especially Jake, who he said can tackle three different emotions at one time.
“I am happy to be working with both ABS-CBN and GMA 7 stars. Marami ring firsts, eh.”
After his studies in Filmmaking abroad, I asked Jake if he is already ready to take the task of being a director.
“Mas gusto ko muna sumubok na maging poducer. ‘Yun anf pinaghahandaan ko kaya am open na to read scripts or synopses na pwedeng sugalan.”
It was a breeze to see Katrina who has a new soap at the Kapuso front now.
“Actually, when this was offered to me, tinanggihan ko na. Kasi, ang dami palang action scenes na gagaiwn ng character ko as PDEA Directoe Acosta. Maga-action!
“Nahihiya naman ako kasi kumbaga ako talaga ang nasa kind ni Direk Njel to do the task. Kaya sabi ko, kung mabibigyan ako ng time na mag-aral muna ng MMA (mixed martial arts), combat. Kinaya naman. Kaya lang, parang huwag ako ikumparabsa ke galing-galing na sa action na si Cristine Reyes, ha! Grabe! Ang galing.”
But her singing prowess worked when she was invited to do her Bahrain and Dubai stints.
“7 songs. 2 shows. Hahaha! Ewan ko nga. Palagi naman. Natutuwa siguro sila sa akin. With my role here, natutuwa ako na nagustuhan naman ni Direk ang mga ginawa naming eksena. Mahirap!”
Dulce, the Diva of All Divas (I call her that!) has a special participation in the movie.
“Nanay lang ng isang adik Sis, na in denial. Galit dun sa pari na nagpapa-alala. Bale cameo role lang my dearest.”
Relevant. A must see!
A play of words! A contradiction. Or contra-addiction.
Whichever way-it boils down to one thing. The story of the movie wants to solve the problem now. If not, Apocalypse might just be in our midst.
