TWENTY NINE (29) movies from different ASEAN countries including the Philippines will pit together at the 4th AIFFA (Asean International Film Festival and Awards) 2019 to be held in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia from April 25-27, 2019.
Eight (8) movies from the Philippines were picked to compete.
“SIGNAL ROCK” by Chito S. Rono;
“BACONAUA” by Joseph Israel Laban;
“KRISTO” by Howard Yambao;
“THE CHANTERS” by James Mayo;
“ML” (Martial Law) by Benedict Mique;
“TANABATA’S WIFE” by Charlson Ong, Lito Casaje, and Choy Pangilinan;
“1-2-3” (GASPING FOR AIR) by Carlo Gallen Obispo; and
“BHOY INTSIK” by Joel Lamangan.
Now on its fourth edition since it started in 2013, the biennial filmfest will be held on April 25-27 in its home country – Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia! AIFFA is being participated in by the ten (10) ASEAN countries – Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Laos, Brunei.

A Filipino actor is featured in Malaysia’s “Crossroads: One Two Jaga”-Timothy Castillo.
News from the Festival Director Livan Tajang said that international actor Steven Segal will be this year’s special guest in AIFFA’s 4th edition.
ASEAN directors, cinematographers, actors, actresses, celebrities, film students and fand will converhe to be enthralled by the finest movies, entertained by first -rate artistes and educated by the most outstanding filmmakers in the region.
In line with Sarawak’s high-tech evolution in this digital age, the focus for AIFFA in 2019 will ne ASEAN’s exponential development towards embracing technology in the film industry.
Head Jury is popular film director U Wei Shaari who has held this post since 2013.
The other four members are:
International Juror, Alain Jalladeau. Festival Director-The Festival of the Three Continents (French: Festival Des (3) Continents), an annual film festival held since 1979 in Nantes, France , and is devoted to the cinemas of Asia and Africa and Latin America;
Mattie Doo, a Lao film director. She is the first female director of a Lao feature film. Her directorial debut “Chanthaly” is the first horror film written and directed entirely in Laos, as well as the first to be screened at major film festivals outside of Southeast Asia like the 2013 Fantastic Fest;
Daniel Rudi Haryanto is an Indonesian Director. He graduated from Film and Television at Jakarta Institute of Arts. His video documentary, “Prison and Paradise” was the winner of Director Guild of Japan Award at Yamagata Documentary Film Gestival in 2011; and
Amable “Tikoy” Aguiluz, an award-winning Filipino film director, producer, screenwriter and cinematographer. He also founded the Cinemanila International Film Festival in Manila in 1999.
