THE “P” TALKS!

KEEMPEE DE LEON. The Joey’s son. And brother to Cheenee. Daria Ramirez is the Mom.
We’ve seen Keempee or Kimpoy grow up in his Papa’s care. With a Mama Emma on the side. On Vigan street in Sta. Mesa, Manila. Good neighbors. Disciplined kids.
Showbiz was kind to Kimpoy not only because his parents are respected in their fields.
He is an artist through and through. Can sing. Dance. Act. Had a degree in Kuya Germs’ “That”s Entertainment”, too. Loveteams. Young love. Young Dad.
The kleighlights just flickered. Where should he be? A recording artist? An actor?
These days, he is thankful that he thought of partnering with friends to open up a restaurant called Locavore (in Forbes Town Burgos Circle BGC and in Makati at Valero st.).
While waiting for that chance to come again. To act. And be showbiz’ denizen.
He had “Eat Bulaga!” for a solid 14 years. Hosting. Singing and dancing once in a while. He had different managers (one was Pops Fernandez’ Mom Dulce Lukban) who took care of his career. But weren’t able to pinpoint where his direction should yield.
Old enough to be a husband or partner and a dad. Definitely old enough to decide things on his own.
“Yes, Ate. I have a daughter. Sa ex ko before. Nasa lola. Pero nasa US sya now for internship nya graduating na kasi. O ‘di ba. She’s 23 years old na. Gusto rin naman mag-artista pero sabi ko finish her studies na muna.
“Di pa ako’married, Ate hahaha…wala nga akong jowa pa hahahaha.
“Sa soap, ako si Benjie na personal driver ni tita Pilar Pilapil at ng mga Salvador. Asawa ko si Matet na mayordoma ng Pamilya Salvador. O, parang may kunek sa ‘yo. My Ate Benjie. Tapos Pilar ang artista. Ganyan ka tawagin ni Mama Emma. Benjie! May anak si Kaye Abad, si MikMik na iiwan sa amin ni Matet.
“Nakatrabaho ko na lahat before except sina tito Dante (Rivero) and tita Pilar. Si FM Reyes ang direktor namin.
“Tita Malou Choa Fagar still acts as my consultant. Pero the decisions I made na tumanggap ng soap at the Kapamilya lot eh, kagustuhan ko naman. So, kung kelangan na mag-promote ako sa katapat sa kabila eh, wala naman akong nakikitang offensive. Wala na nga ako doon, right?”
The good son. When he was axed from “EB”, Kimpoy shared his sentiments to only his close friends. He didn’t wanna make a big fuss out of it. He just let the time pass. And waited for the chance to come to grips with firm decisions. For himself. By himself.
He’s happier. Heaven, and for that matter, God, smiled at him!
