IT was a huge blessing for Star Records recording artist LA Santos, because Imelda Papin herself gave him a permission to revive her OPM classic, Isang Linggong Pag-ibig.
Both Imelda and LA, together with Roxy Liquigan of Star Music, Atty. Marivic Benedictos and composer Jonathan Manalo, signed contracts regarding the release of the modern version of the said song.
We had a short conversation with Imelda Papin after the contract signing. “I can use the best version to revive my song pagdating sa male singer. We came up with an idea… [I said] record na natin… Ako na ang magpo-produce para at least mas maganda.” Imelda said. Imelda has her own production house named Papin Entertainment Productions.
A lot of talented singers approached Imelda to revive her song, but Imelda refused. “Sabi ko kay Mon del Rosario na siya ang composer nito, bago nating ibigay sa iba mind as well na puwede muna ako muna ang pumili.”
If there’s someone who can revive her songs, she prefers a male singer rather than a female singer. Why is that? “Huwag munang [babaeng singer]. Nandito pa [ako].” Imelda laughed.
She noticed a number of great singers in this generation, but the classic still remains. “Bilib naman ako sa lahat dahil lahat naman ay may talent diyan at magagaling, pero sa tingin ko mas lasting iyung mga style namin…Well, hindi natin alam, kasi wala namang nakakaalam kung hanggang saan tatagal ang isang artist, ‘di ba?” Imelda declared.
