RS Francisco winning Best Actor in the 2018 Aliw Awards

LAST night, December 13, was a glamorous night, because the stars were gathered for the 2018 Aliw Awards held at The Manila Hotel in Ermita, Manila.

On that night, award-winning actor and Frontrow president, RS Francisco, won Best Actor (Non-Musical) for his excellent performance as Song Liling in David Henry Hwang‘s masterpiece, M. Butterfly. The audience gave him a standing ovation while he was going on the stage.

RS thanked the Aliw Awards, to the people behind M. Butterfly, and the people who watched and loved the play, “Ginawa ko [ang M. Butterfly] dati. Nahirapan ako gawin ngayon kasi kinailangan kong ibahin ang aking karakter ko.

“Maraming maraming salamat sa lahat ng nanood, at naniwala lalo na iyung mga tumulong sa akin. Siyempre, Jhett Tolentino, maraming maraming salamat… Iyung business partner ko sa Frontrow na si Sam Verzosa na pumayag akuhin lahat ng hiling ko dito sa M. Butterfly… maraming maraming salamat.” He cried

The director of the play, Kanakan Balintagos, also won an award for Best Director.

Next year, there will be a nationwide tour of M. Butterfly in a partnership with SM Cinemas. The start of the tour will kick off on February 14 to 17, 2019 at SM City Iloilo. They also include Davao, Cebu, Dumaguete, and Baguio, but no further information so far.

The Philippine production of M. Butterfly is directed by Kanakan Balintagos (director of Pisay, Busog and Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros). Produced by Jhett Tolentino and Frontrow Entertainment.
