PHILIPPINES’ 120th Independence Day is getting near, and our kababayan from North America are very excited for the upcoming events this June. There will be parades, food festivals, and musical performances with our very own Kapamilya stars like Kim Chiu, Jona, Jay-R, Richard Gutierrez, Jaya, and many more. There will be eleven events in the month of June organized by international Filipino groups, Philippine government, with the collaboration of The Filipino Channel (TFC).
Here’s the list of events:
120th Independence Day Concert & Gala Reception
When: Saturday | June 9, 2018 | 5:30 PM
Where: Marines’ Memorial Theater, San Francisco, California
What to Expect: If you like formal events, 120th Independence Day Concert & Gala Reception is just for you. Watch a full-length concert featuring world-renowned Filipino piano virtuoso, Raul Sunico playing a full suite of classical and contemporary pieces. Also part of the occasion is The San Francisco Boys Chorus.
After the concert, reception will follow where guests will be welcomed by a beautiful Rigodon de Honor, a Filipino-Spanish quadrille folk dance, to be performed by consular officials and community leaders. The ticket costs $50 including buffet dinner and drinks.
City of Carson’s 120th Philippine Independence Day Celebration
When: Saturday | June 9, 2018 | 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM
Where: Veteran’s Park, 22400 Moneta Ave., Carson, California
What to Expect: It begins with a flag raising ceremony, followed by an ecumenical service, and a holy mass. The parade/cultural street dance participated in by different Filipino-American, City-affiliated, and school-based organizations officially open the program. This year’s featured indigenous group is the “Igorot”. Igorot dancers will thus be leading the parade.
Non-stop entertainment follows with headliners from ABS-CBN-The Filipino Channel, like Sam Milby and Jona. Interactive booths, exhibits, food and non-food vendors, and a children’s area make the event ideal for families and people of all ages.
120th Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Philippine Independence Gala Night
When: Saturday | June 9, 2018 | 5:00 PM – 11:30 PM
Where: The Hilton Hotel, 555 Universal Hollywood Drive, Universal City, Los Angeles, California
What to Expect: Kalayaan Incorporated is a non-profit public benefit corporation in the State of California, and is classified as a public charity organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. It was registered as a corporation in 2011, but its history dates back to the early 2000s. This year’s gala showcases the unique culture and vibrancy of the Filipino community in Southern California, and celebrate diversity of Filipino cuture.
5th Annual Piyesta Pinoy
When: Saturday | June 9, 2018 | 11 AM to 10 PM
Where: Bolingbrook Performing Arts Center, Bolingbrook, Illinois
What to Expect: Piyesta Pinoy is an annual celebration showcasing Filipino heritage and culture. It’s also the biggest Filipino Festival in the Midwest. It features dozens of fun cultural events and activities, and a live entertainment from both contemporary and folk performers at the main stage. Experience authentic Filipino cuisine and browse through cultural exhibits, arts & crafts. In addition, Piyesta Pinoy features a volleyball tournament, basketball, and Zumba sessions.
Piyesta Pinoy begins with a 5K run/roll/walk, and a parade. In the main stage, cultural program starts at 11 am, variety starts at 2 pm, LOL TFC Hour with Iñigo Pascual at 5 pm, and dance party 8 pm onward. Admission is free!
Manitoba Filipino Street Festival: Samu’t Saring Saya! A Manitoba Filipino Gathering

Where: Maples Multiplex and Grounds, Monitoba, Canada
What to Expect: The Manitoba Filipino Street Festival showcases the unique way the different regions in the Philippines celebrate their growth and achievements. It will be a 2-day celebration which will be called Samu’t Saring Saya! A Manitoba Filipino Gathering. The vast area of the multiplex, including both the hockey arena and community centre, will be the place to be this summer for the biggest Filipino Fiesta in Manitoba. Special guest stars including Eric Nicolas, and the Supremo himself, Richard Gutierrez.
The 2018 Philippine Days Festival
When: Saturday and Sunday | June 9-10, 2018 | 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM
Where: The Waterfront Park, North Vancouver
What to Expect: Speaking of Eric Nicolas and Richard Gutierrez, they will be in North Vancouver for The 2018 Philippine Days Festival. The Philippine Days Festival is an annual event features entertainment by a wide range of Filipino and other local artists and performing arts groups. They also features Filipino cultural heritage and Filipino food.
PDOC 31st Philippine Day Festival
When: Sunday | June 10, 2018 | 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM
Where: Third Ward Memorial Park, Passaic, New Jersey
What to Expect: Expect a lot of food and entertainment in PDOC 31st Philippine Day Festival. You’ll be surrounded by food trucks showcasing their finest food, and of course, their very own version of our all-time Filipino food.
The event starts with our flag raising and mass in the park. After this, there are tons of activities you can do, including participating in cultural games, watch cultural entertainment, and more. Get a chance to meet La Luna Sangre star, Bryan Santos.
Kalayaan SF Festival 2018
When: Saturday | June 16, 2018 | 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM
Where: Union Square, San Francisco, California
What to Expect: Kalayaan SF Festival 2018 is an annual event held in San Francisco during the month of June to commemorate and celebrate the anniversary of the Declaration of Philippine Independence, which occurred in Kawit, Cavite on June 12, 1898. It showcases the unique culture and vibrancy of the Filipino community, currently the largest Asian American group in California. In keeping with previous years’ traditions, The Kalayaan SF outdoor celebration will culminate in a free, full-length concert headlined by nationally and internationally known recording artists. This year’s concert, produced by ABS-CBN/TFC (The Filipino Channel), will be held in the main stage of Union Square. KalayaanSF and presenting sponsor TFC are proud to offer a full concert featuring Filipino-American platinum recording artist and the Philippines’ King of R&B, Jay R along with the sensational soul diva, Jaya!
Vaughan Fiesta Extravaganza 2018
When: Saturday and Sunday | June 23 – 24, 2018 | 9:00 AM to 11:00 PM
Where: Dufferin Clark Public Park, Vaughan, Ontario
What to Expect: Vaughan Fiesta Extravaganza 2018 is the biggest celebration of Filipino culture and traditions in Ontario Canada every summer. It will coincide with the celebration of Filipino Heritage Month in the GTA and soon in Ontario that will promote multicultural awareness and appreciation of Philippine heritage. One way of recognizing the achievements of the Filipino Community that has contributed to the social and economic fabric of Canada.
The main highlights of the two day event are the following: Non-stop entertainment and musical Extravaganza, Cultural Dance Presentation, Food Expo, Bumper2Bumper Auto Show, Featured artists and TFC Kapamilya Stars Kim Chiu and Jay-R, and more.
28th PAFCOM Parade and Festival
When: Sunday | June 24, 2018 | 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM
Where: Lincoln Park & West Side Ave., Jersey City.
What to Expect: Jersey City’s Philippine-American Friendship Committee will celebrate its 28th annual parade and festival on June 24 with performances by Kim Chiu. The parade kicks off at the intersection of West Side Avenue and Claremont avenues and will feature music, dances, and costumes of various ethnic groups. The festival, which will take place in Jersey City’s Lincoln Park, will feature vendor booths from 10 AM to PM and entertainment from 1 PM to 6 PM.

What to Expect:
ABS-CBN’s The Filipino Channel (TFC) brings ASAP, the longest running, top-rated weekly Filipino musical variety show, to Honolulu, Hawaii. Here is the rundown of the first wave of celebrities expected to wow Hawaii: Gary Valenciano, Martin Nievera, Ogie Alcasid, ZsaZsa Padilla, Piolo Pascual, Toni Gonzaga, Robi Domingo, Pia Wurtzbach, KZ Tandingan, Morissette, Yeng Constantino, Angeline Quinto, Kyla, Daryl Ong, Erik Santos, Inigo Pascual, Darren Espanto, Moira Torres, and Zia Quizon. More artists will be announced in the coming weeks, so be on the lookout, save the date, and be sure to get tickets for the whole family.
