AFTER long years of anticipation since its first announcement in 2010, the British band Queen and Freddie Mercury‘s biopic movie Bohemian Rhapsody will finally see on the big screen this fall.

The first official trailer has been released on the internet yesterday, May 15th. It’s also one of the most trending videos on YouTube today. Starring Mr. Robot’s Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury, the exuberant vocalist of the band Queen. Originally, it was Sasha Baron Cohen (Borat, Les Miserable) who should play as Freddie; but in 2013, he left the project citing “creative differences” with Queen.

Also starring in the movie are Lucy Boynton (Sing Street, Murder on the Orient Express), Gwilym Lee (Midsomer Murders), Ben Hardy (X-Men: Apocalypse, Eastenders), Joseph Mazzello (The Social Network), Aiden Gillen (Game of Thrones), Tom Hollander (Pride  & Pejudice, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End), and Mike Myers (Austin Powers, Shrek). It’s directed by Dexter Fletcher, and Bryan Singer.

According to the official synopsis, the movie focuses on the life of the band: from their humble beginning, until their reunion on the eve of Live Aid. “Bohemian Rhapsody is a foot-stomping celebration of Queen, their music and their extraordinary lead singer Freddie Mercury, who defied stereotypes and shattered convention to become one of the most beloved entertainers on the planet. The film traces the meteoric rise of the band through their iconic songs and revolutionary sound, their near-implosion as Mercury’s lifestyle spirals out of control, and their triumphant reunion on the eve of Live Aid, where Mercury, facing a life-threatening illness, leads the band in one of the greatest performances in the history of rock music.”

Bohemian Rhapsody is due for release on November 2nd in the US. No official announcement yet for its Philippine release.
